Art Bergmann grew up in White Rock, British Columbia. A fan of early Who, Kinks and David Bowie he joined an outfit that sounding nothing like those bands. The Shmorgs were more progressive and never ended up doing much. However, one L.P. was released and that was enough to send him on his way.
Shortly after moving into Vancouver in 1979 he formed one of the West Coast's first punk rock bands the Young Canadians. The band scored a hit with "Hawaii" on their first E.P. and would go on to record another before disbanding. With punk fading fast Art formed Poisoned as his next rock and roll vehicle. The band met with critical aclaim but the name was overshadowed by the metal band Poison and it wasn't long before Art Bergmann became the direction.
During his solo career Art ended up inking deals with Polydor and Sony, with the Sony release garnering him a Juno Award for best Alternative album of the year. After a long run he signed off and moved to the country plains of Alberta. In recent years he has begun recording and playing live again and we're all better off for that!
2019 finds a recharged and productive Art who "want's to be heard!" To that end Porterhouse will be supporting him in the creation of a career retrospective compilation, new singles and full lengths as well as a written memoir.
